This Ramadan, you can break your fast with fresh, comforting Vietnamese food at Vietnamese Foodies.

Two iftar experiences here bring the warmth of the Southeast Asian hospitality straight to your table.

Whether you’re gathering with friends and family at one of their restaurants or opting for a cosy night in, they’ve got an option for you.

For those who enjoy dining out, the four-course Iftar menu offers a spread that ticks all the right boxes. Delicious? Check. Healthy? Check. Super fresh? Double check.

For Dhs129 per person, you get to mix and match your meal with a choice of appetisers, salads, soups and mains.

Fancy starting with grilled chicken satay or perhaps some crispy spring rolls?

Follow it up with a fresh green papaya and prawn salad or a beef salad with tamarind dressing.

Let’s talk about the dish you’ve been waiting for: choose from the ever-popular beef brisket pho, shredded chicken thigh pho, or a zingy tom yam soup.

If you’re not a pho person, that’s cool, too. You’ll have options like chicken curry with rice, Sichuan chicken stir fry, or a classic pad Thai with prawns.

Looking to level up your meal? If you’re treating your friends (or just yourself), you can add on slow-cooked beef with dates for Dhs10 or go for Atlantic baked salmon for Dhs14.

If staying in sounds more like your kind of evening, the delivery-only iftar options ensure you won’t miss out. Priced at Dhs69, the two-course meal brings the flavours of Vietnam straight to your doorstep.

Choose between coconut prawn tempura or crispy chicken with lime leaf salt to start, before diving into a comforting main like vegan curry with rice or rice noodles with five-spice grilled chicken.

With nine locations across Dubai from JLT to Creek, and Downtown to Arabian Ranches 3, and availability on all major delivery platforms, Vietnamese Foodies makes it easy to enjoy a fresh and wholesome iftar wherever you are.

Available throughout Ramadan, this is a fuss-free way to enjoy something hearty and delicious at the end of the day.

Ready to break your fast with a light, refreshing bowl of pho?

One of Dubai’s favourite Asian foodie spots is opening a new location in the vibrant DIFC Gate District.

Vietnamese Foodies, a popular hang-out guaranteeing authentic comfort food, will open on Monday October 28 in the city’s prestigious corporate hub.

The new spot will be the biggest venue by the health-conscious dining brand to date with room for up to 160 guests at one time.
Specialising in wholesome Vietnamese cuisine such as pho and fresh rice paper rolls, it’s set to be a go-to lunch spot for the city’s busy business community.

And let’s talk about the pho for a moment. Simmering away for 14 hours, the bone broth of the non-veggie pho is packed full of flavour.
The brand has amassed a loyal following by specialising in wholesome, freshly made dishes packed with raw vegetables, lean proteins and a variety of fragrant herbs.

And with a very reasonably priced business lunch deal priced at just Dhs69, including an appetiser, main course and drink and featuring vegan and non-vegan options, your wallet and your taste buds will thank you.

The DIFC restaurant will be the brand’s ninth in the city since opening its doors in JLT back in 2018. But with each new opening, Vietnamese Foodies has been able to maintain the same high standards for quality, authenticity and service across all branches.

Lily Hoa Nguyen, Founder and Executive Chef, shared her enthusiasm for the new location.

She said: “Continuing on our growth journey in Dubai, we are proud to bring our 14-hour-bone-broth Pho to the doorstep of our fellow Dubaians in DIFC.

“We will do our best to ensure that you always enjoy Vietnamese food at its highest quality and authenticity, served in a welcoming ambience with exemplary service.”
Their diverse menu caters to all dietary preferences, offering vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, and paleo options, with no MSG in any of their recipes.

The new location will be open seven days a week, opening on Monday October 28, catering to the needs of DIFC’s diverse and constantly moving crowd.

Now is the time for action. Empowering women is not just a moral imperative, but a strategic investment to ensure the F&B industry’s future.

While there are more women building businesses in the food and beverage (F&B) sector, the voice of female entrepreneurs has remained weak in this melting pot of flavors and ideas. This gender-based injustice is not a problem merely from the perspective of women; it is also a missed opportunity for the industry to maintain its creative and innovative seeds. In order to address this, the F&B industry needs to provide greater support and encourage the growth of female entrepreneurs.

For starters, let’s consider financial equality- it is crucial to empower female entrepreneurs due to the significant barriers they face in the F&B industry. The traditional explanation of the gender funding gap involves a lack of representation, gender investment bias, and risk aversion. This disparity limits the ability of women to develop their businesses, and it also affects their contribution to the industry, as they do not have equal access to funding.

To solve this, the F&B sector must promote fairness when it comes to funding. We must create an environment where female-led businesses can be evaluated based on their potential and performance, rather than a bias toward their leaders, by encouraging investors to actively seek diverse opportunities, and supporting the establishment of venture capital firms exclusive for female entrepreneurs. Initiatives like She’s Next and She WINS Arabia are notable in this regard, as they were created to provide financial support for women-led startups in the MENA.

Furthermore, there is a need to establish mentorship programs to help female-owned businesses build a qualified profile from an investor’s point of view. Indeed, mentorship and networking programs are essential in the F&B sector. It can help women reach their targets in leadership roles, aid decision-making, access funding and business opportunities, whilst also enhancing skill development– in particular for new entrepreneurs.

Finding a good mentor and approaching support networks can also create a safe space for female entrepreneurs to share and learn from each other’s experiences as well as navigate gender-centric challenges. Moreover, by learning from mentors who understand policies and regulations in the business arena, female entrepreneurs can also reduce the long-term risks and challenges they may face.

The culinary industry should thus create (and promote) women-centric business organizations to assist the process of building and networking events that can help female entrepreneurs to reach out to both mentors and networks as they need. Dubai Business Women Council is an excellent role model in this regard- they are known for hosting talks that allow female entrepreneurs to access such mentors and build networks of their own.

BREAKING GENDER STEREOTYPES (AND CHERISHING DIVERSITY)

Despite being a dynamic and vibrant industry, F&B cannot be immune to gender stereotypes. Traditional norms often view women as belonging in the family kitchen, leaving managing roles to men. However, it’s time to challenge these stereotypes, and create an encouraging environment that accepts and embraces the diverse talents of females.

The F&B sector can break down barriers that limit the entry and growth of female entrepreneurs by adopting an unbiased culture, which means actively diminishing gender bias, supporting diverse role models, and encouraging a society of respect and fairness. This will actively contribute to a balanced F&B industry. It’s worth noting here that the UAE government has a special initiative called Women’s Economic Empowerment Principles, which are aimed at supporting women-led startups by offering guidance on how to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The F&B industry has also often seen the roles and achievements of its female entrepreneurs remain invisible or underestimated owing to the underrepresentation of women in what is a traditionally male-dominated sector. Female entrepreneurs were late entrants when they were able to break the “glass ceiling” just about a few decades ago, and therefore, they have been neglected by the mass media and lack of role models.

To solve this problem, the F&B sector must take action by actively promoting and celebrating the achievements of female entrepreneurs in the industry to attract investors and public attention. This will further help to inspire future female entrepreneurs. For example, the UAE-based entities Tamkeen and startAD, along with the Abu Dhabi Government Media Office, launched the Emirati Women Achievers initiative to highlight female entrepreneurs and increase their visibility. As such, new female entrepreneurs can also be encouraged to pursue their dreams when they see their gender celebrated in the culinary world- this helps reduce their fear of risk and failure. Recognition is a strong tool and powerful motivator for building a community for female entrepreneurs in the F&B sector.

Another key challenge for many female entrepreneurs in the F&B sector lies in balancing their ambition with their family duties. Additionally, the work in the F&B industry requires long hours and demanding schedules. Therefore, the dual responsibility creates an invisible burden for female entrepreneurs. Adopting flexible working arrangements and family-friendly policies such as childcare support can empower female entrepreneurs to pursue their culinary ambitions, without sacrificing their personal lives. By promoting work-life balance, the F&B sector can thus preserve and support the talent of women entrepreneurs.

Lily Hoa Nguyen is the co-founder and owner of Vietnamese Foodies, an authentic and healthy Vietnamese restaurant based in Dubai. She grew up in Saigon also called Ho Chi Minh City, therefore, she was always fascinated by Vietnamese culture, and it had a great impact on her cooking. With the experience gained from her previous jobs in Vietnam, Istanbul, and Paris, she built up Vietnamese Foodies.

What her day looks like…

7:30 AM: I usually wake up around this time, I never have to set the alarm since the noise when the kids awake served as the best alarm ever. And following is my husband who is also awakened by the noise. Once our children are ready in their uniforms and in the kitchen, I prepare the lunch boxes and their morning meals. After that, my husband takes the kids to school, and I go back to my room to brush my teeth and take a shower.

8:15 AM: Waiting for my husband to come back from his trip to our kids’ school, I prepare breakfast for us, some Vietnamese dishes for me, bread, some cheeses for him, and coffee for both of us (of course), we love coffee. Once he is home, we share breakfast and talk about our business’s situation, plan, and other economic topics. By 8:45 am, we bid each other goodbye and headed to the office.

9:15 AM: I normally arrive at the office by this time and answer all my mail, mostly from partners and my employees. If there is an upcoming event, there are lots of phone calls that need to happen. Since my start-up has a modest management team, there is a lot of work needed to handle from business development to managing inventory and budget.

10 AM: Usually around 10 to 11 AM, we will have the meeting of the kitchen team, operation team, HR team, or marketing team depending on the day. After the meeting, I will go to one of the restaurant branches under our brand name.

12 PM: This is lunchtime across our branches, the restaurant is normally very crowded so I can gain more insight when observing the customers, their types, orders, and experience with our service to improve our business. I always bring one small notebook with me and note all the information obtained in it.

1 PM: Lunchtime, my one. Having lunch is the best way to examine the food quality, I can check whether the Pho soup taste is authentic enough or the rice is perfectly cooked and fluffy. On top of that, I love Vietnamese food, it not only reminds me of my homeland but also of the childhood meals shared with my family. Professional development is important to me so I normally read some books after the meal.

2 PM: This is the time for me to go back to work. The marketing team normally will send their design and content to me around this time. We have a small team, but talent. Normally we will focus on how to deliver the best image of our restaurant to the customers, strategic plan, and priorities to figure out how we manage to get the enormous amount of work done.

4 PM: I usually go back home around this time to avoid traffic; Dubai traffic congestion is always a nightmare. When I came back home, the kids were already taken home by the driver and they always gave me a huge hug, sometimes my husband joined us as well.

4:30 PM: After telling my kids to take a shower, I go to the kitchen to prepare dinner. My husband will help me with the appetizers, he is not good at cooking. Then, we all have dinner together at 5 pm, our kids tell me about their day at school, and how good they are at sports or piano lessons. I cherish the meals we have together since I cannot meet them during the weekdays.

6 PM: After the meal, our kids can play a bit until their tutor comes to help them with their homework. When they are working on their homework, I will finish the remaining work of that day and my husband will read his newspaper. This is the most silent time we have together, only the sound of the kids’ pencils on paper and writing on my keyboards.

7 PM: Once the kids have finished their homework, we are going to watch some good movies together. Our family is a big fan of the Star Wars series and Marvel studio. I always make some popcorn for the kids and my husband, sometimes they fight over the popcorn.

8:30 PM: It’s time to put the kids to bed. My husband will stay in the living room to enjoy his favourite tennis match while I and the kids will go upstairs. The responsibility of telling bedtime stories is mine and I enjoy it, it is like a mom-and-kid secret time. And that is the end of my day.

Now is is the time for action. Empowering women is not just a moral imperative, but a strategic investment to ensure the F&B industry’s future. Together, we can build a culinary revolution that embraces the diversity and richness of our global community.
